KegMan cold plates are used in bars, pubs, restaurants, soda fountains, taverns and even homes to cool 55° F. beer, wine, soda, seltzer, and juice to ice temperatures. If you like really cold draft beer from a tap then you need a cold plate and ice. These cold plates are made by casting a formed stainless steel coil into an aluminum blocks for strength and heat transfer from the beer to the ice. No bar beer tap system can be considered complete without a cold plate to bring the brew down to 37° F.
Cold plates are only recommended when the internal product (keg, cask, bag, or water supply) temperature can be kept below 55° F. The product can be continually drawn from the faucet at 37° F. when the source is kept at or below the 55° F criteria and ice is maintained on the surface of the cold plate. Warmer product may require a two product cold plate hooked up in a series loop fashion for continuous drawing of warmer product temperatures or demand will have to be limited to maintain cold output temperatures. Cold Boxes with cold plates are available for picnics and parties.
When it is impossible to keep the internal pre-cooled product temperature below 55° F. and continuous draw is expected, we recommend using a coil box (cooler) with a 120 feet of stainless steel coilinside that is covered with ice. With the 120 foot coil room temperature product can be served continuously at 40 to 42° F. As with the cold plate, product temperatures will be maintained even during continuous draw with the full 120 foot coil. High temperature (hot) product must be drawn at a lesser than continuous rate if the 40 to 42° F. is desired at the output.
When using a cold plate it is important to keep the plate from setting in any water so that it is continually in contact with the ice. A drain in the cold box is recommended. Periodic pushing down on the cold plate will help cool the product.
For electrical four product flash coolers see Flash Chillers.
